According to a report from Axios, a Prince William County, Virginia county superviser running to unseat Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) suggested there may be evidence that a woman can’t become pregnant after being raped during a question and answer get-together.

Axios is reporting that audio taken during the event in Stafford County revealed that Yesli Vega “downplayed” the potential for pregnancy after a sexual assault.

Vega, who won the Republican primary after getting endorsements from Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Ginni Thomas, wife of conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, told attendees, “The left will say, ‘Well what about in cases of rape or incest?’ I’m a law enforcement officer. I became a police officer in 2011. I’ve worked one case where as a result of a rape, the young woman became pregnant.”

When asked, “I’ve actually heard that it’s harder for a woman to get pregnant if she’s been raped. Have you heard that?” she agreed that there is a possibility that was true.

the uk government is trying to scrap the human rights act.

i’ve not seen a lot in the media about this so i’m going to do my best to put this into words and explain what will happen if the government is successful in replacing the human rights act with the rights removal bill.

this will mean that in the uk:

you won’t be allowed to say anything negative about the government
if you are disabled or chronically ill, you won’t be allowed to say no to being given a DNR in hospital
you won’t be allowed to bring ‘trivial’ human rights violations to court
public authorities (the police) won’t have to actively protect people’s human rights
the uk military will be allowed to basically do whatever they want overseas
if you ever commit a crime, they can disregard your human rights
the government will not be obligated to obey human rights

I think its depressing and dangerous and repulsive how women who defend him are contributing to these theatrics but i don’t blame women for the culture of hatred and misogyny we are socialised in. I don’t want to alienate women more thsn they hsve already alienated from the realities of DA and the resources available to them should they need them. I genuinely can only hope these women get it together enough to improve their understanding of domestic abuse enough to help keep themselves safe and to be a safe person for other women and children in their lives who experience domestic abuse. I can’t pretend i dont find it repugnant the way im hearing women talk but when i do talk about it w women defending him, I’m trying to have calm, composed and compassionate conversations w women who are convinced that they hsve to prioritise and make good w their love for men who perpetrate violence against other women.

3. If you wanna talk to her about it w the aim of pressing her to think about aspects she might not have considered.

- amber heard is relentlessly labelled an attention seeker and creator of drama and a stressor on johnny depp’s life- but he is the person seeking public vicious court cases at every opportunity. she wanted a divorce and a restraining order and afterwards she agreed to put out his joint statement and she did it. amber heard just wanted out and his public mask slipped and he has been furious about it ever since. intentionally putting an ex partner thru unnecessary and exceptionally stressful and humiliating court cases is an established method of post-separation abuse. definitely something for women who are sympathetic to depp to think about…

- in order to refute that he is domestic abuser, johnny depp has to say that almost every instance of graphic violence amber heard has described is a fiction. Firstly- ask your friend how likely is it that a woman would fabricate this many separate instances of violence? Could you do that and relay it in court? Under pressure? Under cross examination? I don’t think that i could… real life isnt gone girl. secondly- amber heard doesn’t refute everything johnny depp describes, she doesnt need to because she is being truthful. She can provide explanations for self-defensive violence, she doesn’t deny drug use for eg. amber heard describes the texture, complexities and conflict in her experiences throughout the relationship- much to the exposure of her trauma and deeply personal matters. johnny depp on the other hand is telling us a straightforward story about a deviant hysterical woman who doesnt exist- which he must do in order to set up an explanation for her allegations of abuse. In order for his characterisation of amber heard to fly, johnny depp must deny everything… every single instance. he must say she photoshops her injuries, fakes post-traumatic stress behaviours, lies in detail about horrific sexual assault, he must say that he in fct has never laid hands on a woman. who is telling stories, really?

Like ive said before, defending domestic abusers in law is textbook work. dirty, dont know how you sleep at night work, but textbook 🤷‍♀️

-someone said to me the other day, is it likely that this was the first relationship he ever becsme abusive because no other women have reported abuse? Would you report johnny depp? Plenty of women are terrified of being sued just like amber heard when they are dealing w men who arent famous millionaires bc they cannot prove shit all! Would you have reported johnny depp 20 years ago? Or today? Most women do not report domestic abuse in the first place. Most domestic abuse is not recorded or charged. Yes abuse escalates and it is likely that other women have experience of johnny depp which support amber heard’s experiences. but maybe they don’t. what we do have is amber heard’s evidence and it is compelling regardless.

-ask your friend how she feels about his descriptions of amber heard in texts w paul bettany. take the domestic abuse out of the equation for a minute- if you find out a man is talking or joking about raping his partner’s dead body as punishment with his friends, how do you feel about him? theres not a man in my life who would keep his place in my life, let alone a celebrity who could say this and i would be vaguely interested in seeking some kind of justice for him. I just want women to examine this urge to defend a man who will talk like this….

anyway 🤷‍♀️ i don’t think you should preach and i wouldnt try to convince anyone. dont get into debates, dont him v her. But do open up conversations with women about these aspects of it and see where your conversations end up. hopefully somewhere productive.

If at any misguided point its a man you’re talking to and he is disgusting about it then kick him in the head and save your breath. and any bloke who graciously reminds you that men can also be subjected to intimate partner violence wants letting know that nobody has done more damage to that cause in the last 10 or so years than johnny depp and im sure plenty of male survivors would agree. he, of course, is shameless.
